“A Journey into China’s Antiquity: Chinese History in Cultural Relics (all six volumes)” (Chinese version and English version) is a boutique series, edited by the National Museum of China, according to the historical period, divided into six volumes: “Paleolithic Period to Shang and Zhou Period” and “Western Zhou Dynasty To the Warring States Period”, “Qin Dynasty to Northern and Southern Dynasties”, “Sui Dynasty to Tang Dynasty”, “Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms to Yuan Dynasty”, “Ming Dynasty to Qing Dynasty” .
The book is based on the “Basic Exhibition of Ancient China” exhibits at the National Museum of China, with 2333 pictures of precious cultural relics as the main testimony, systematically introduces China’s long history and culture from 1.7 million years ago to the end of the Qing Dynasty, shows the wisdom and the hardships the ancestors paid to promote historical development and social progress, as well as the vast and colorful Chinese civilization from many different perspectives. It is a veritable general history of ancient China from the perspective of cultural relics. The book strives to guide readers to revisit the footprints of their ancestors, so as to explore the roots, inherit Chinese history and culture, cultivate cultural self-confidence, and help the great rejuvenation of China and the exchange and mutual learning with world civilization.

The National Museum of China, under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China, is located on the east side of Tiananmen Square, center of Beijing. Its predecessor can be traced back to the Preparatory Office of the National Museum of History established in 1912. It is now the largest museum in the world with a single building area. With the function of collection, exhibition, research, archaeology, public education, and cultural exchanges, it is the highest institution which on behalf of China, collects, researches, displays, and interpretates material evidences that can fully reflect China’s excellent traditional culture, revolutionary culture and advanced socialist culture. It’s the country's highest historical, cultural and artistic palace and cultural living room. There are currently more than 1.4 million pieces in the collection, with rich research resources, solid research foundations and strong research strength.
