The story of two college going young lovers of this powerful novel is set
in the background of incidents of anti-Hindi agitations waged in the 60s
in the Tamil speaking south Indian State of India. The protagonist, for
some unknown reason is separated from the girl he loved, joins her after
many years by chance, in Europe when they are in their middle age. By
then he becomes an English journalist who has covered the Tamil
struggle going on in Srilanka and witnessed many things in life as to
have a thorough understanding of the different forces that were behind
history at a particular time very important for changing the Centre-state
relation in the political character of a region .And this narration presented
in two levels in alternate chapters which brings in many conflicts, be it
caste, religion or radical left movements of the 60s, and the different
conflicting layers of family bond, provide an over–arching arena of
language politics and its characteristics . Chapters of this novel are
arranged in such a way that readers can read in three different ways.

Author Biography
Tamilavan (Prof.S.Carlos) is a novelist and critic. He started a new trend of writing of fiction in Tamil,a language of hoary past spoken by a large number of people in South East Asia, by introducing new techniques like pictorial depiction of situations and characters in the 80s thereby paving a path for later writers to follow the new potential of imagination. This broke the hitherto prevailing trend of the so-called ‘realist’ method.
He was teaching comparative literature, folklore and culture in many Universities such as Warsaw University, Warsaw, Poland(for four years) ,Bangalore University, and Dravidian University. He was
Hon.Director of translation, SahityaAkademy(Bangalore), for three years.
He gave lectures in Paris,Crackow(Poland),London, Germany,Singapore and Malaysia on Tamil
Literature and Folklore.He was member of many learned bodies such as MLA(U.S), Folklore Fellows of Finland etc.
M.S.University ,Thirunelveli gave the best Critic Award in 2017.Literary Garden,Canada, gave the Best Novel award for his novel in 2008.The translated version of his novel ,’Waarsaavil..’ in Kannada received from Karnataka Govt. Sahitya Academy, the best Translated Novel award, in 2017.
