Civilization that appears in every aspect of life from etiquette and proper
conduct to city life, from architecture to music, from cuisine etiquette to
international politics, is a concept that has been on the agenda for two
centuries, which has also been worn down and wasted. Those who want
to start a war and those who end a war hide behind this same concept.
Barbaric actions made in the name of “the mission to civilize” necessitate
us to re-study the complicated history of modernity.
In an era where barbarity, modernity and being civilized are experienced

Author Biography
İbrahim Kalın was born on September 15, 1971 in Istanbul. In
1992, he graduated from Istanbul University, Department of
History. He went to Malaysia for his master’s degree. In 1996,
he entered the George Washington University in the USA
for his postgraduate. He gave lectures about Islamic
thought and Islam-West relationships, in College
of Holy Cross, Georgetown University and Bilkent
University. At the same time, he had academic
studies on philosophy, Islamic thought and Islamic
philosophy. In 2009, he was appointed to Prime
Minister Responsible for Foreign Policy. In 2012,
he served as Deputy Undersecretary of the Prime
Ministry. After Recep Tayyip Erdoğan became President,
he was appointed as Deputy General Secretary of the
Presidency. Finally, on December 11, 2014, he was appointed
as Presidency Spokesman
