The author builds his reflections on the analysis of Cossack laws, hetman documents and literary sources - exquisite examples of poetry and art of writing. The work is supplemented with rare illustrative materials.

Author Biography
Valeriy Shevchuk is a Ukrainian writer, historian and archivist, a winner of the Shevchenko National Prise, the Antonovych Foundation Award and the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, Honored Worker of Polish Culture. He is an author of more than 30 novels and collections of short stories (7 books was translated into English) and more than ten monographs and translations of works of ancient Ukrainian literature.
