As old as humanity itself, intoxication has yet to receive a systematic and unified treatment that situates it within its diverse cultural contexts. Due to this oversimplification, which detaches it from its true coordinates, the so-called “scourge of the twentieth century” still appears as a random phenomenon with murky origins.
