Chinese silk craftsmanship is a brilliant pearl on the "Silk Road" over thousands of years. As one of the four major silk varieties—ling (damask), luo (gauze), chou (plain silk), and duan (satin)—luo occupied a considerable proportion in the production of silk fabrics in ancient China. This book clarifies the chronological emergence of luo fabrics and their structures, analyzes their characteristics and representative types in different historical periods based on the trajectory of historical development, and explores the inherent connections and inheritance among them. Furthermore, drawing on existing resources and tools, it examines the modern weaving techniques of luo and proposes feasible methods for its protection and inheritance.

Author Biography
Zhao Bing, PhD, Postdoctoral Fellow. He has successively been awarded honors such as the Jiangsu Provincial Double Innovation Doctor and the Second-Class Award for Technological Progress by the China National Textile and Apparel Council. He presides over projects including the 64th China Postdoctoral Science Foundation General Program and the Jiangsu Provincial Postdoctoral Science Foundation. He has guided students to win awards such as the Special Prize in the Black Technology Special Competition of the 17th Jiangsu Provincial "Challenge Cup", the Second-Class Award in the 7th Jiangsu Provincial "Internet +" College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, and projects under the Jiangsu Provincial College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program. In the past five years, he has published 5 papers as the first author or corresponding author, including 3 in SCI journals and 2 in EI journals. He has obtained 5 authorized patents as the first inventor and transferred 1 invention patent.
