Description
The extraordinary story of a family, from the Czech Lomnice of 1860 to imperial Vienna,
from Nazi Vienna all over the world.
The Flutterers and the Graumanns were neither rich people nor intellectuals, but people as we all know them - with their doubts, worries, talents, ambitions, vanities ... Some of them felt part of a Jewish identity, others did not want to be Jews at all and were violently made to be. Some were murdered, others managed to escape. Today the children of the survivors are scattered all over Europe and the USA.
The family saga is based on seven extensive written testimonies from the immediate family circle. The result is a text of touching closeness and immediacy that is very rare.

Endorsements
Brigid Grauman's book is a fascinating, very successful and sensitive story and I will be happy to write a review. Brididid Grauman has been able to draw on many private memoirs and has described her Jewish family history in Central Europe and in exile in a very lively, original and authentic book, which is also outwardly very beautifully designed.

Author Biography
Brigid Grauman was born in Geneva to an Irish mother and American father. Her childhood was in France, Israel and Belgium, where she became a Brussels-based journalist and for many years was Editor-in-Chief of the English-language weekly news magazine The Bulletin. She has interviewed international filmmakers and architects, writers and musicians, and reported on topics as diverse as the Roma, social policy and urban projects for British and American media. An occasional painter, she has sold work to Belgium’s Ministry of the French Community. This book is inspired by her quarrelsome and very literary Austro-Hungarian family, many of whom were among the Nazis’ millions victims.
