Author Biography
Oleksandr Irvanets was born on January 24, 1961 in Lviv. He spent his childhood in Volyn. During his life, he worked as a teacher, journalist, served in the army, worked in the theatre, was teaching at the university, and was engaged in scientific research of the Ukrainian culture. Together with Yuriy Andruhovych and Viktor Neborak, he founded the "Bu-Ba-Bu" poetry group in spring 1985. The first poetry collection of Irvanets was published in 1987. Currently, he has more than 25 published works, many of which were also published in Polish, Croatian and Belarusian languages. Oleksandr Irvanets is engaged in translations into Ukrainian from Polish, Russian, French and Belarusian. Many of his translations are included in poetic and prose anthologies, almanacs, collections. Based on his translations a lot of plays are staged in theatres in Kyiv.
