Author Biography
Menena Cottin was born in Caracas. She studied graphic design at the Design Institute of the Neumann Foundation and took courses in children’s book writing and illustration at Parsons School of Design. Throughout her career, she has been the author, illustrator, and designer of more than 30 children’s books published in several Latin American and European countries, such as Venezuela, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Peru, Guatemala, Italy, France, and Portugal. Her style, determined by the abstraction of forms, has allowed her to create what she has called “conceptual books”, works where the reader, through play and the element of surprise, reasons and assembles the pieces that build a universal concept such as time, the use of letters or the relationship of opposites. Some of her most representative works have been The Black Book of Colours, which has won a large number of awards, including the New Horizons at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair (2007), Cuac (2018), Doble Doble (2016), honorable mention in the Bologna-Ragazzi Award Digital Book (2017) and De otro color (2014).
