The Illustration of Dunhuang Costume Culture series jointly launched by Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology and Dunhuang Research Academy focuses on their respective expertise and advantages in Dunhuang study and clothing culture research, inherits and innovates in theory and practice. On the one hand, the historical background and costume culture of Dunhuang Grottoes are expounded theoretically according to the division of historical times. On the other hand, the art practice of Dunhuang Grottoes murals and painted sculptures costumes are carried out based on theoretical research. The series not only arrange and draw the overall clothing effect and patterns of murals and painted sculptures in the way of sorting and copying, but also on the basis of respecting the clothing history and technological rules. The series also make artistic reproduction of the characters’ clothing images in the murals and painted sculptures, so as to make them more intuitive, dynamic and close to the times.
