Traditional Yuxi Ethnic Embroidery
by Qian Xiaoli
Description
This book systematically collects, explores, and organizes the endangered embroidery totem patterns scattered among the folk in Yuxi. It serves as a crucial part of improving the folk art database, protecting and inheriting the ethnic embroidery culture, expanding the source channels of ethnic embroidery patterns, and enriching the "root" and "soul" of the accumulation of traditional ethnic culture.
Divided into ten chapters, this book briefly outlines the origin of embroidery of the 8 indigenous ethnic minorities in Yuxi, the characteristics of costumes of different ethnic groups and their branches, as well as the classification, characteristics, and implied meanings of embroidery totem patterns. Additionally, it fully demonstrates basic embroidery stitches and more difficult advanced ones. The selected costumes, totem patterns, and embroidery works basically reflect the overall picture of the embroidery art of the eight ethnic minorities. The purpose is to provide a reference for inheriting the craftsmanship and its history through exploring the embroidery culture. Readers can truly feel the charm of Yuxi's ethnic minority culture through the pictures of embroidery works in the book.
