A young woman, deeply in love with her husband, travels to a snow-covered, remote village with their little son and daughter, so that the man can write his novel in silence and peace. The man goes to town every day to work in a publishing house, while his wife and children stay at home until night. After a while, they realize that the village is uninhabited except for a woman named Nastaran who lives next door. She is a middle-aged yet beautiful and mysterious woman living alone. Strange noises and unknown footprints on the snow scare even the man who insists on the house being peaceful. The woman feels something outside their house spying on her and her family. At first, she thinks all this is only an illusion, but little by little she feels a shadow roaming around freely out in the cold, in the dark basement that seems to be locked, and even in the bedrooms. It turns out that things are not as they seem. Is this calm loving woman hiding something?

BRING ME SOME YARN is a mystery novel. The narrator is a woman who writes to her husband about the events happened to their small family, as if she is writing a letter during his absence. The story is like a puzzle with each piece related to all the other ones, and once each piece is put in its right place, a part of the mystery is solved. The author tactfully provides the reader with puzzle pieces, but the pleasure of discovering the secrets of the story is for the reader alone. It is a novel of suspense, in which the shocking events surprise the readers from the very first chapter tempting them to find answers to every single mystery.
This novel, however, is more than a mere mystery. It deals, at a level, with the life of an ordinary, lonely woman with a passionate love that demands a heavy price; and, at another, it is a psychological narration of a woman's confrontation with the tragic events of her life and with her mental pain. All of the secrets of the story are expertly intertwined in these layers in order to create a full-fledged Iranian Gothic. All this, along with the strong plot, vivid imagery, precise details, and memorable characters give BRING ME SOME YARN the potential to be adapted for cinema.
This novel was quite successful in Iran. The author has managed to create an intact psychological thriller. In spite of supernatural aspects of the story, one can see the reality behind the event and the result is far from a surrealist novel.
Author Biography
Maryam Hosseinian, born in 1975 in Mashhad, is an author and literary critic. She has published two novels which were well-received by Iranian audiences. She is a Soil Engineer and also a Persian Literature graduate. She published her first fiction collection in the 1990s and received several literary awards for this book. At the same time, she began working with local and national newspapers. She published BRING ME SOME YARNS in 2010. The book was banned for a while due to censorship. The novel was nominated for Hooshang Golshiri Literary Award, and critics refer to it as a modern Gothic. The novel has so far sold over seven thousand copies. Her next novel, WE ARE DYING HERE, was published in 2017 and showcased another aspect of her writing skills. It has sold over four thousand copies. Maryam Hosseinian lives with her husband and son in Tehran.
