YA-MARK-PO
by Yin Jianling
Description
This is a story about a Chinese boy You’an who grew up in a Christian orphanage in Shanghai in the early 20th century, and how this experience changed his life forever. Born in Shanghai, You’an never knew his mother who died in childbirth. His dumb father remarried, and his stepmother treated him badly. After his horrible fifth birthday, You’an ran away. He got lost on the way to his grandmother’s, and a church doorman took him to the orphanage YA-MARK-PO which was attached to the cathedral. He met all kinds of people there, including Joseph, Jusheng and various religious men. However, he soon realized that what he felt in the orphanage was the power of art rather than the call of God.
