        A Husband with ASD, What To Do?

        A Training Course for Thoses Who Have a Partner with Autism

        by Els Blijd-Hoogewys, Anja Talboom

        Because of their problems with social interaction it is often presumed that people with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) cannot have romantic relationships. This is not true; adults with ASD are certainly capable of having long-term relationships. Although some partners are satisfied with their relationship, there are also some who experience problems caused by ASD. Both, the partner with, as the partner without ASD, can feel unhappy and misunderstood in the relationship. This is where this book can be of help. This unique 10 step psychoeducational program helps women, whose partner suffers from an autism spectrum disorder, to understand the condition as well as their partner better. This book also offers tips for daily life that can help improve the relationship between the partners and giving the women more time to herself.   Target Group: partners of people with autism, therapists.

        The Devil is an Ass

        by Peter Happe

        This edition of "The Devil is an Ass" (1616) aims to provide an insight into Jonson's life and work, the theatrical qualities of the play, its political background and its textual history. In his introduction, Peter Happe looks at the special place of the play in Jonson's own life, his interest in London, the theatrical setting of the play and its sources and analogues. There are critical and explanatory commentaries and a glossarial index. The play is seen in its historical and political context, by linking it with late medieval and Elizabethan plays, as well as with the Jacobean stage. The text is meticulously and reliably edited, with modernized spelling for today's reader. A commentary is provided to explain difficult or significant passages. The stage history of the play also includes very recent productions. ;

        Reise in das unbekannte Land des Vertrauens

        Ein wahres Märchen über die Sehnsucht so angenommen zu werden, wie wir sind

        by André Stern

        Der Bestsellerautor André Stern begibt sich auf der Suche nach dem Wesen des Vertrauens durch eine Welt voller Grenzen, Trennungen und Misstrauen. Feinsinnig, philosophisch und zum Nachdenken anregend konfrontiert die Leser mit den uns selbstverständlich erscheinenden Erwartungen und Bewertungen, die das Vertrauen in uns selbst und in andere beeinflussen, schädigen oder stören können – immer verbunden mit dem tiefen inneren Wunsch jedes Menschen, so angenommen zu werden, wie wir sind. André Stern hält uns in diesem wahren Märchen in bildstarker, poetischer Sprache den Spiegel vor und er beleuchtet Seiten – Winkel, Details aber auch das große Ganze –, die wir so noch nicht gesehen haben. Dieses Buch ist ein Herzöffner.

        Naming security - constructing identity

        ‘Mayan-women’ in Guatemala on the eve of ‘peace’

        by Maria Stern

        How do people seek security in relation to their sense of 'who they are'? How can one make sense of insecurity at the intersection of competing identity claims? Based on the voices of Mayan women, Stern critically re-considers the connections between security, subjectivity and identity. By engaging in a careful reading of how Mayan women 'speak' security in relation to the different contexts that inform their lives, she explores the multiplicity of both identity and security, and questions the main story of security imbedded in the modern 'paradox of sovereignty.' Her provocative analysis thus raises vital questions about what might constitute 'security', and the 'insecurity' that is its inevitable supplement. Her study also offers an innovative methodology that bridges many different disciplines and substantively develops the method of 'reading' politics as a 'textual practice'. It will be essential reading for students of security, identity politics, feminism, and Latin American studies.

        by André Stern, Petra Thorbrietz

        André Stern, der mit seinem Buch …und ich war nie in der Schule einen Bestseller landete und seither auf Veranstaltungen Säle füllt, hat ein fesselndes Plädoyer für bedingungsloses Vertrauen in die natürliche Entwicklung unserer Kinder verfasst. Statt Leistungsoptimierung und Konkurrenzdenken setzt er auf die individuelle Entwicklung und das eigene Tempo des Kindes.»Das Spiel ist für das Kind die direkte Art, sich mit dem Alltag, mit sich und mit der Welt zu verbinden. Für Kinder ist das freie Spiel ein Bedürfnis. Eine Veranlagung, ein Hang, oft ein Drang. Es ist für das Kind eine tiefe Erfüllung.« André Stern

        by Stefanie Rietzler, Fabian Grolimund

        There are beautiful and difficult moments in the life of a little bear. Fortunately, his parents are always there for him! Ich traf meinen Mörder

        Ein Journalist und die dunklen Seiten der Macht

        by Dündar, Can / Übersetzt von Adatepe, Sabine

        Ein Brief erreicht den Exil-Journalisten Can Dündar. Der Absender: Serkan Kurtuluş, ein türkischer Häftling in einem Gefängnis in Buenos Aires. Er gibt sich als jemand zu erkennen, der den Auftrag erhielt, ihn zu ermorden  – und verspricht ihm brisante Informationen. Der Hintergrund: Mit einem Artikel über geheime Waffenlieferungen der Türkei an eine verbotene syrische Islamistenorganisation machte sich Can Dündar Staatspräsident Erdoğan zum Feind. Er wurde zu 27 Jahren Haft verurteilt – und es wurde ein Attentat auf ihn verübt, direkt vor dem Gerichtsgebäude.  Dündar besucht den Mann, der ihn ermorden sollte, im Gefängnis. Dieser wiederum fürchtet wegen drohender Abschiebung in die Türkei jetzt selbst um sein Leben. Durch ihn und bei weiteren Recherchen stößt er auf ein Netzwerk von geheimen Deals zwischen demokratischen und autokratischen Regierungen und deren Verbindungen zum organisierten Verbrechen und zu Terrororganisationen. Eine unglaubliche Geschichte, spannend wie ein Thriller, aber leider real – ein erschreckender Blick in die Abgründe politischen Machtmissbrauchs.

        Eine Bildbiographie

        by Arno Schmidt, Fanny Esterhazy, Bernd Rauschenbach

        Kein anderer Schriftsteller war sich der Bedeutung von Bildern für ein Leben so bewusst wie Arno Schmidt: »Mein Leben?!: ein Tablett voll glitzernder snapshots«, schrieb er in seinem Roman »Aus dem Leben eines Fauns«. Was also wäre adäquater, als Arno Schmidts Leben mit einer Bildbiographie nachzuzeichnen, die mosaikartig das Panorama einer eigenwilligen Schriftstellerexistenz zusammensetzt. Einführende Texte von Bernd Rauschenbach geben einen Überblick über die Stationen von Schmidts Leben – die Kindheit in Hamburg, die Jugend in Schlesien, Kriegszeit und Nachkriegselend, die wiederholten Wohnortwechsel, bis Arno Schmidt in Bargfeld in der Lüneburger Heide die »ihm gemäße Landschaft« findet. Für diese erste umfangreiche Bildbiographie über Arno Schmidt hat die Herausgeberin Fanny Esterházy in Archiven nachgeforscht und Unbekanntes und Verblüffendes zutage gefördert: Fotos, Zeichnungen, Dokumente aller Art, Bücher und Manuskripte, Notizen und Briefe, Zeitungsartikel, Alltägliches und Kurioses. Ergänzt und erläutert wird das vielfältige Material durch Textpassagen aus Arno Schmidts Werk, Auszüge aus den Tagebüchern von Arno und Alice Schmidt sowie Kommentare von Kollegen und Freunden.

        Orangism in the Dutch Republic in word and image, 1650–75

        by Jill Stern, Joseph Bergin, Penny Roberts, Bill Naphy

        This remarkable study represents a completely original presentation of the language and imagery used by the Orangists in the critical period in the mid-seventeenth century Netherlands as they sought the restoration of the stadholderate in the person of the young prince William III. Stern argues that the Orangists had no desire for the prince to become a monarch, rather that they viewed the stadholderate as an essential component of the Dutch constitution, the Union of Utrecht, and fulfilling a key role as defender of the rights and privileges of the citizenry against an overwheening urban oligarchy. Source material is drawn not only from books and political pamphlets but also from contemporary drama, poetry, portraits, prints, and medals. This enables the author to examine the imagery used by the supporters of the House of Orange, in particular the symbols of rebirth and regeneration which were deployed to propagate the restoration of the stadholderate in the person of William III. ;

        Love and anti-Judaism in medieval English romance

        Typologies of violence and desire

        by Hope Doherty-Harrison

        Love and anti-Judaism is a new examination of medieval romance for the questions it poses of the most significant events in Christian history. Providing new readings of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Sir Orfeo, Sir Gowther and Sir Amadace, the book argues that romance explores depictions of love-and the sacrifices it may necessitate-in the Hebrew Bible, especially where they do not easily fit into interpretations asserting that this history must prefigure Christ and the crucifixion. An examination of anti-Judaism as a discourse of violence and desire that could be turned inwardly to expose the irresolution in Christianity, this book will provoke new investigations into the religious crises of medieval romance.

        Dog politics

        Species stories and the animal sciences

        by Mariam Motamedi Fraser

        Do dogs belong with humans? Scientific accounts of dogs' 'species story,' in which contemporary dog-human relations are naturalised with reference to dogs' evolutionary becoming, suggest that they do. Dog politics dissects this story. This book offers a rich empirical analysis and critique of the development and consolidation of dogs' species story in science, asking what evidence exists to support it, and what practical consequences, for dogs, follow from it. It explores how this story is woven into broader scientific shifts in understandings of species, animals, and animal behaviours, and how such shifts were informed by and informed transformative political events, including slavery and colonialism, the Second World War and its aftermath, and the emergence of anti-racist movements in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The book pays particular attention to how species-thinking bears on 'race,' racism, and individuals.
