View Rights PortalBurleigh Dodds Subliscience Publishing was established in 2015 by former staff at the award-winning Woodhead Publishing. Our vision is to help solve one of the world’s greatest challenges: to feed the world’s growing population. There is an urgent need for a more climate-smart agriculture able to feed a growing population whilst, at the same time, adapting to (and not exacerbating) climate change. Our goal is to build collections of research on key topics in agricultural science so that researchers can build on existing work and collaborate more effectively. We are achieving this by using ’smart-publishing’ to help achieve ’climate-smart’ agriculture.

What does money really stand for? How can the abstractions of high finance be made visible? Show me the money documents how the financial world has been imagined in art, illustration, photography and other visual media over the last three centuries in Britain and the United States. It tells the story of how artists have grappled with the increasingly intangible and self-referential nature of money, from the South Sea Bubble to our current crisis. Show me the money sets out the history and politics of representations of finance through five essays by academic experts and curators, and is interspersed with provocative think pieces by notable public commentators on finance and art. The book, and the exhibition on which it is based, explore a wide range of images, from satirical eighteenth-century prints by William Hogarth and James Gillray to works by celebrated contemporary artists such as Andreas Gursky and Molly Crabapple. It also charts the development of an array of financial visualisations, including stock tickers and charts, newspaper illustrations, bank adverts and electronic trading systems.
Mozart and Hegel, Jean Paul and Edgar Allan Poe: they were all fascinated by Franz Anton Mesmer (1734–1815). The forester’s son from Lake Constance was regarded as one of the most controversial doctors of his time. Some celebrated him as a miracle healer for his theory of “Animal Magnetism”, while others discredited him as a fraud. Thomas Knubben wonderfully narrates this scintillating life story set in a turbulent time of change. A story of exceptional giftedness and tragedy ... Mesmer left his mark on the epoch: his theory became the original source for concepts in psychoanalysis, hypnosis and psychotherapy.
Are we all still only moving around in our bubbles, unwilling and unprepared to engage in the positions of "the others"? Will only someone be heard who polarises and defames loudly enough, who ignores facts, denies them, twists them, who even calls for violence? The debate over the corona measures has given a new urgency as we address the question of how democracy can be lived and protected in times of an erosion of the centre and social cohesion. Karoline M. Preisler asks herself these questions and, as a passionate democrat, advocates creating new tools and meeting places for the necessary dialogue on controversial topics such as the limits of freedom, religion, climate crisis, immigration and the family.
This book offers a nuanced snapshot of the complex geopolitical dynamics in the Persian Gulf, underlining the interaction between Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the US. Examining their interwoven relations since the 1970s, Luíza Cerioli's framework reveals how changes in US-Saudi ties have ripple effects on Iran-US and Iran-Saudi relations and vice versa. Using a historical lens, she explores how enduring US-Saudi connections hinge on order expectations, delves into the cognitive factors shaping US-Iran enmity and traces the source of oscillation in the Saudi-Iran ties. Employing Neoclassical Realism, the book investigates status-seeking, national identities and leadership preferences, offering a deeper understanding of the region's multipolar system. By combining International Relations and Middle East Studies, Cerioli's work contributes to both fields, unravelling the intricate interplay between international structures, regional nuances and agency in shaping Persian Gulf geopolitics.
