        What a waste

Outsourcing and how it goes wrong

by Andrew Bowman, Ismail Ertürk, Peter Folkman, Julie Froud, Colin Haslam, Sukhdev Johal, Adam Leaver, Mick Moran, Nick Tsitsianis, Karel Williams

This is the first ever book to analyse outsourcing - contracting out public services to private business interests. It is an unacknowledged revolution in the British economy, and it has happened quietly, but it is creating powerful new corporate interests, transforming the organisation of government at all levels, and is simultaneously enriching a new business elite and creating numerous fiascos in the delivery of public services. What links the brutal treatment of asylum-seeking detainees, the disciplining of welfare benefit claimants, the profits effortlessly earned by the privatised rail companies, and the fiasco of the management of security at the 2012 Olympics? In a word: outsourcing. This book, by the renowned research team at the Centre for Research on Socio-Cultural Change in Manchester, is the first to combine 'follow the money' research with accessibility for the engaged citizen, and the first to balance critique with practical suggestions for policy reform.

(Band 2)

by Jochen Till / Dominik Rupp

Freya and the Fearless - Plundering is a Skill! (Vol. 2) All Vikings are fearless? Not quite ... They call themselves "The Fearless" and they want to rob, plunder and pillage for all they're worth. The only problem is that the sight of a little girl makes them wet their pants. Freya has had enough of plundering Vikings and gives Heinar's people a good scare. What happens in Vol. 2:The sea is getting narrower and narrower, with land in sight to the right and left. So this must be England. Finally, our brave Vikings can once again plunder, rob and pillage to their heart's content. Heinar and his men sail leisurely up the Thames, until something blocks their way: Unfortunately, the British king's architects built the new bridge much too low. Now no ship can get out or back in and the English have to do without their beloved hot drink: tea. Freya and the Fearless turn Tower Bridge into a suspension drawbridge, bring back tea to the British, and casually invent the bearskin cap along the way.• A little girl shows the despondent Vikings what a real guy is• Funny sidekicks: The Odin family is watching from heaven• Innovative 90:10 text-image ratio, illustrated in b/w• For fans of ‘Vicky the Viking’ and ‘Asterix & Obelix’.• To be continued with Vol. 3 and 4

Freya und die Furchtlosen - Auf ins Gefecht! (Band 1)

        by Jochen Till

Freya and the Fearless (Vol. 1) - Off to Battle!   They call themselves "The Fearless" and they want to rob, plunder and pillage for all they're worth. The only problem is that the sight of a little girl makes them wet their pants. Freya has had enough of plundering Vikings and gives Heinar's people a good scare.   • A little girl shows the despondent Vikings what a real guy is • Funny sidekicks: The Odin family is watching from heaven • Innovative 90:10 text-image ratio, illustrated in b/w • For fans of ‘Vicky the Viking’ and ‘Asterix & Obelix’.  • Volumes 2 and 3 coming in 2022 and 2023   Viking chief Heinar Hookepee leads a small troop of daring men into a new adventure. While it is being widely discussed who exactly should lead the attack, a little girl stands up to them - our heroine Freya. She's fed up with Vikings attacking her village all the time and angrily scolds Hookepee and his men - who are nowhere near as fearless and brave as they always pretend to be. Something has to change: The men have to learn to become real Vikings. And who better to teach them than the fearless Freya? So Freya lands on the Viking ship and, with a lot of wit and clever methods, tries to teach our sissy Vikings everything they are missing.

        by Bertolt Brecht, Tom Kindt

Sieben Jahre Wirtschaftskrise.

by Clemens J. Setz, Philip Waechter

My Bank Washes Greener

Eco lies told by the finance sector

        by Bernd Villhauer

        — By the expert in ethical business — Once you have finished this, you will never fall for green financial lies again — Global Ethic Institute (Weltethos- Institut) network And suddenly every bank is sustainable. This truly necessary "debate book" explains in a wellfounded way what green-washing means in the financial sector, and why banks, insurance companies, asset managers, stockbrokers and other financial players clothe themselves in their allegedly so green-and-friendly cloak. It provides an easy-to-understand explanation of the various forms of greenwashing, how we can recognise the different "varieties" and – above all – how we can avoid them. This is also important because the entire financial and capital system is an important part of a sustainable future – and this can only succeed if it is honest, transparent and impact-orientated.

        Launder and Gilliat

by Bruce Babington, Brian McFarlane, Neil Sinyard

        Bruce Babington analyses the achievement of one of the central partnerships in British film history, the screenwriters of famous films by Hitchcock and Carol Reed, who became the producer-writer-directors of a succession of famous and well-loved films including Millions Like Us, Two Thousand Women, Waterloo Road, The Rake's Progress, I See a Dark Stranger, The Blue Lagoon and The Happiest Days of Your Life. This study of the pair is notable both for its contextualising of them within English and British culture over four decades, including British cinema's 'golden age' of the war and immediate post-war years, and for its close reading of films that have been critically neglected, despite their popularity. Scholarly but not pedantic, the book shows its subjects to be not ordinary mainstream practitioners but deceptively serious filmmakers registering the 'ideological weather' of wartime and post-war Britain in engaging and creative ways. ;
