View Rights PortalThis edition of "The Devil is an Ass" (1616) aims to provide an insight into Jonson's life and work, the theatrical qualities of the play, its political background and its textual history. In his introduction, Peter Happe looks at the special place of the play in Jonson's own life, his interest in London, the theatrical setting of the play and its sources and analogues. There are critical and explanatory commentaries and a glossarial index. The play is seen in its historical and political context, by linking it with late medieval and Elizabethan plays, as well as with the Jacobean stage. The text is meticulously and reliably edited, with modernized spelling for today's reader. A commentary is provided to explain difficult or significant passages. The stage history of the play also includes very recent productions. ;
Herminie and Fanny Pereire were sisters-in-law, married to the eminent Jewish bankers and Saint-Simonian socialists Emile and Isaac. They were also mother and daughter. This book, a companion to the author's acclaimed Emile and Isaac Pereire (2015), sheds new light on elite Jewish families in nineteenth-century France. Drawing on the family archives, it traces the Pereires across a century of major social and political change, from the Napoleonic period to the cusp of the First World War, revealing the active role they played as bourgeois women both within and outside the family. It offers insights into Jewish assimilation, embourgeoisement and gender relations, through the lens of one of the most fascinating families of the century.

There, all she wants is to pull the blanket over her head and think of nothing else. Not about that night. Not about the party. And most of all, not that picture that's been circulating on the Internet ever since. But it doesn't work. Because instead of her friend, she meets Noah, Ivy's stepbrother. Because of their problems with social interaction it is often presumed that people with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) cannot have romantic relationships. This is not true; adults with ASD are certainly capable of having long-term relationships. Although some partners are satisfied with their relationship, there are also some who experience problems caused by ASD. Both, the partner with, as the partner without ASD, can feel unhappy and misunderstood in the relationship. This is where this book can be of help. This unique 10 step psychoeducational program helps women, whose partner suffers from an autism spectrum disorder, to understand the condition as well as their partner better. This book also offers tips for daily life that can help improve the relationship between the partners and giving the women more time to herself. Target Group: partners of people with autism, therapists.

How do people seek security in relation to their sense of 'who they are'? How can one make sense of insecurity at the intersection of competing identity claims? Based on the voices of Mayan women, Stern critically re-considers the connections between security, subjectivity and identity. By engaging in a careful reading of how Mayan women 'speak' security in relation to the different contexts that inform their lives, she explores the multiplicity of both identity and security, and questions the main story of security imbedded in the modern 'paradox of sovereignty.' Her provocative analysis thus raises vital questions about what might constitute 'security', and the 'insecurity' that is its inevitable supplement. Her study also offers an innovative methodology that bridges many different disciplines and substantively develops the method of 'reading' politics as a 'textual practice'. It will be essential reading for students of security, identity politics, feminism, and Latin American studies.
There are beautiful and difficult moments in the life of a little bear. Fortunately, his parents are always there for him! No matter whether the little bear gets frustrated with a difficult puzzle, is afraid of jumping into the swimming lake or gets angry because he has to accept a “no” from his parents, he is always experiencing the following: "My parents love me. I can trust them and feel their support." A secure bond between children and their caregivers is the foundation for a healthy self-esteem, a good handling of one's own feelings and resilience. Such a bond develops in many small everyday situations, whenever children experience that their parents see them, accept them and accompany them – even in difficult moments.
This remarkable study represents a completely original presentation of the language and imagery used by the Orangists in the critical period in the mid-seventeenth century Netherlands as they sought the restoration of the stadholderate in the person of the young prince William III. Stern argues that the Orangists had no desire for the prince to become a monarch, rather that they viewed the stadholderate as an essential component of the Dutch constitution, the Union of Utrecht, and fulfilling a key role as defender of the rights and privileges of the citizenry against an overwheening urban oligarchy. Source material is drawn not only from books and political pamphlets but also from contemporary drama, poetry, portraits, prints, and medals. This enables the author to examine the imagery used by the supporters of the House of Orange, in particular the symbols of rebirth and regeneration which were deployed to propagate the restoration of the stadholderate in the person of William III. ;
Based on award-winning research, Love and revolution brings classical and contemporary anarchist thought into a mutually beneficial dialogue with a global cross-section of ecological, anti-capitalist, feminist and anti-racist activists - discussing real-life examples of the loving-caring relations that underpin many contemporary struggles. Such a (r)evolutionary love is discovered to be a common embodied experience among the activists contributing to this collective vision, manifested as a radical solidarity, as political direct action, as long-term processes of struggle, and as a deeply relational more-than-human ethics. This book provides an essential resource for all those interested in building a free society grounded in solidarity and care, and offers a timely contribution to contemporary movement discourse.
“There is no Planet B!” More and more young people are worried about the future of Planet Earth. Climate change is heating not only the planet but also people’s emotions. But what exactly is climate? And why are the changes threatening the lives of both polar bears and us humans. In simple language but with solid science, the authors explain the most important aspects of climate, from the greenhouse effect to the Gulf Stream. Current developments are described as well, and the scientific background is supplemented by gripping reports. The book also offers a glimpse of the future: what will happen if we go on in the same way as now? How can climate change be halted? This makes for riveting reading – and not just for young activists.
