        We present to you a rhino that actually once circled the earth in the spaceship, an artist cat from Paris known by everyone, the adventures, and wanderlust of a tiny house, and love stories kissed by the sun... Curious? If you are looking for children's books with a universal message of hope and connectedness, we'd love the opportunity to meet with you. Inner Flower Child Books is a children's book publisher founded in California in 2012 by the creative team of author Susan Schaefer Bernardo (M.A. English Languages and Literature, Yale University) and illustrator Courtenay Fletcher (BFA Advertising/Graphic Design, Art Center College of Design). These artists and their team produce profound, touching, and humorously inspiring books that have become very successful in the US. With wittiness, humor, and intelligence — with rhymes at times — they create stories that promote children's language and social capabilities development. Partly because of that, Susan’s and Courtenay's picture books are used nationwide by schools, children's charities, therapists, and families across the United States to help children and youth heal from problems, large and small. At a time when the whole world is being hit by the trauma of a pandemic, books such as “Sun Kisses and Moon Hugs” bring children and young people a comforting message of love and connection. The colorfully illustrated and inspiring picture books contain generally assignable topics such as healing trauma, bringing people closer to living a sustainable life, and the power of creative expression — predestined to be successful worldwide. (Speaking of worldwide distribution: one of Susan’s and Courtenay's books, “The Rhino Who Swallowed The Storm” was sent to the International Space Station to orbit the planet — and was read aloud by astronaut Kate Rubins as part of the innovative “Story Time From Space” program and broadcasted! Apart from that, “The Rhino” was also promoted by former, then-incumbent First Lady Michelle Obama and present presidential candidate Joe Biden. For more information, please visit our website!). All Inner Flower Child Books titles are currently only published in the United States. Susan and Courtenay are therefore pleased to be able to offer publication and subsidiary rights on all other world markets for the first time. Teen Couple Have Fun Outdoors

        Ein lässiger Generationenroman aus Indien

        by Aravind Jayan, Daniel Beskos

        Es ist mehr als nur ein neues Auto. Für Appa und Amma der indischen Kleinfamilie beglaubigt der weiße Honda Civic – »Weiß ist gut. Das wirkt sauber« – den Aufstieg. Mittelschicht, harter Arbeit Lohn, die Kinder werden es mal besser haben. Natürlich sollen die Nachbarn das sehen! Doch Sreenath, ihr Ältester, verhält sich seltsam, kommt nicht mal runter in die Einfahrt, und sehr bald wissen sie und ihr Jüngster sowieso: Ein Video ist aufgetaucht, eins von Sreenath und seiner Freundin, auf einer dieser Seiten. Seit Jahren sind sie ein Paar, trotzdem bedeutet dieses heimlich gefilmte Video eine unerhörte Schande, und eine sagenhafte Eskalation nimmt seinen Lauf … Teen Couple Have Fun Outdoors ist ein beißender Generationenroman aus Indien. Aravind Jayan erzählt darin mit der Lässigkeit der Jungen von Scham, Repression und Tradition im Angesicht von Klasse, Sex, dem Internet. Und doch beschreibt er mit Zärtlichkeit eine Heimat, die fortwährend mit der eigenen Modernisierung kämpft.

        Surface tensions

        Surface, finish and the meaning of objects

        by Christopher Breward, Glenn Adamson, Victoria Kelley, Bill Sherman

        Surfaces are often held to be of lesser consequence than 'deeper' or more 'substantive' aspects of artworks and objects. Yet it is also possible to conceive of the surface in more positive terms: as a site where complex forces meet. Surfaces can be theorized as membranes, protective shells, sensitive skins, even thicknesses in their own right. The surface is not so much a barrier to content as an opportunity for encounter: in new objects, the surface is the site of qualities of finish, texture, the site of tactile interaction, the last point of contact between object and maker, and the first point of contact between object and user. Surface tensions includes sixteen essays that explore this theoretically uncharted terrain. The subjects range widely: domestic maintenance; avant-garde fashion; the faking of antiques; postmodern architecture and design; contemporary film costume. Of particular emphasis within the volume are textiles, which are among the most complex and culturally rich materialisations of surface. As a whole, the book provides insights into the whole lifecycle of objects, not just their condition when new. ;

        Empire and subject peoples

        Herbert Adolphus Miller and the political sociology of domination

        by Jan Balon, John Holmwood

        The book outlines the sociological arguments and political activities of the US pragmatist sociologist, Herbert Adolphus Miller (1875-1951). Miller was part of the milieu of Chicago sociology and involved in its studies of race and immigration. He took a distinctly more radical approach and developed a novel political sociology of domination in which he set out a critique of empires, the plight of subject minorities and the risks associated with the inevitable nationalist responses. Where others have identified with the 'internationalisation' of nationalism, Miller sought to make the nation 'international'. He was actively involved in movements for racial justice, Czechoslovakian independence, the formation of the Mid-European Union of subject peoples, as well as support for Korean and Indian independence. He was dismissed by Ohio State University for his activism in 1932.

        The subject of love

        Hélène Cixous and the feminine divine

        by Sal Renshaw

        The Subject of Love: Hélène Cixous and the Feminine Divine is about abundant, generous, other-regarding love. In the history of Western ideas of love, such a configuration has been inseparable from our ideas about divinity and the sacred; often reserved only for God; and rarely thought of as a human achievement. This book is a substantial engagement with her philosophies of love, inviting the reader to reflect on the conditions of subjectivity that just might open us to something like a divine love of the other. Renshaw follows this thread in this genealogy of abundant love: the thread that connects the subject of love from 5th century B.C.E. Greece and Plato, to the 20th century protestant theology of agapic love of Anders Nygren, to the late 20th century poetico-philosophy of Hélène Cixous. This study will be of particular interest to academics and students of the history of gender, cultural studies, criticism and gender studies ;

        Zwischen Hass und Haltung

        Was wir als Migrationsgesellschaft lernen müssen | Vom gelingenden Zusammenleben nach dem 7. Oktober

        by Derviş Hızarcı

        Als Vorsitzender der Kreuzberger Initiative gegen Antisemitismus erlebt Derviş Hızarcı das, was nach den Ereignissen des 7. Oktober in Deutschland in Gang gesetzt wird, aus einer besonderen Perspektive. Seit Jahren kämpft er für gelebte Vielfalt, gegen Hass in Bildung und Schule in einem Land, das sich endlich als Migrationsgesellschaft zu verstehen beginnt, doch nun drohen wieder – genau wie nach dem 11. September – die altbekannten Gefahren: Vereinfachungen, Anschuldigungen, das Auslagern der Schuld, die gedankenlose Ausgrenzung seitens der Mehrheit. Wieder muss er sich stellvertretend für so viele einen Weg bahnen zwischen Hass und Haltung, muss ganz praktisch helfen dabei, die heftig auseinandertreibenden Emotionen und Identitäten zu versöhnen, um das Lernen zu ermöglichen und das Erinnern nicht zu gefährden. Zwischen Hass und Haltung erzählt von einer besonderen Bildungsreise. Sie beginnt im postmigrantischen Berlin zu einer Zeit, in der jemand wie Derviş Hızarcı schmerzend selbstverständlich nicht dazu gehört. Und sie führt ihn schließlich in die Verantwortung, die Bedingungen für ein gelingendes, vielfältiges Zusammensein jeden Tag neu zu formulieren. »Derviş schafft es, das Ich und das Wir so miteinander zu verbinden, dass man sich gesehen und gehört fühlt und daraus die Energie entwickelt, Brücken zu bauen zu anderen. Nur in dieser Ich-Wir-Verbindung wird das Gemeinsame auf Dauer gelingen. Ich bin froh, dass es Menschen wie Derviş gibt, die sich mit so viel Herz und Intelligenz dafür einsetzen.« Igor Levit
