Mit dieser Ausgabe wird die Korrespondenz zwischen dem Dichter Rainer Maria Rilke und dem Bildhauer Auguste Rodin erstmals und, soweit überliefert, erstmals vollständig in deutscher Sprache vorgestellt. Die Briefe werden ergänzt durch Tagebuchnotizen und eine Vielzahl von Äußerungen des Dichters über Rodin sowie durch Augenzeugenberichte Dritter. Rätus Luck legt damit über die Dokumentation der wechselvollen Verbindung zwischen zwei großen Künstlern hinaus so etwas wie ein - nach RodinMonographie und Rodin-Vortrag - drittes Rodin-Buch Rilkes vor: Es zeigt den unmittelbaren Eindruck, den die Persönlichkeit des Bildhauers beim jungen Rilke hinterließ, und zeichnet dabei zugleich den Verlauf der Rodin-Rezeption am Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts nach, zu der Namen wie Anne de Noailles, Rudolf Kassner, Harry Graf Kessler, Sidonie Nádherný von Borutin, Emile Verhaeren oder Helene von Nostitz gehören.
