Intimacy and mobility in an era of hardening borders

        Gender, reproduction, regulation

        by Haldis Haukanes, Frances Pine

This book is a collection of articles by anthropologists and social scientists concerned with gendered labour, care, intimacy and sexuality, in relation to mobility and the hardening of borders in Europe. Interrogating the relation between physical, geopolitical borders and ideological, conceptual boundaries, it offers a range of vivid and original ethnographic case studies that will capture the imagination of anyone interested in gendered migration, policies of inclusion and exclusion, and regulation of reproduction and intimacy. The book presents ethnographic and phenomenological discussions of people's changing lives as they cross borders, how people transgress and reshape moral boundaries of proper gender and kinship behaviour, and moral economies of intimacy and sexuality. It also focuses on migrants' navigation of social and financial services in their destination countries, putting questions about rights and limitations on citizenship at the core.

        Birth controlled

Selective reproduction and neoliberal eugenics in South Africa and India

        by Amrita Pande

This book analyses the world of selective reproduction by a critical analysis of three modes of controlling birth, namely contraception, reproductive violence, and repro-genetic technologies. All population control policies target and vilify women (Black women in particular), and coerce them into subjecting their bodies to state and medical surveillance; Birth controlled argues that assisted reproductive technologies and repro-genetic technologies employ a similar and stratified burden of blame and responsibility based on gender, race, class and caste. The book draws on gender studies, sociology, medical anthropology, politics, science and technology studies, theology, public health and epidemiology to provides a critical, interdisciplinary and cutting-edge dialogue around the interconnected issues that shape reproductive politics in an ostensibly 'post-population control' era.

        Rig-Veda. Das Heilige Wissen

        Dritter bis fünfter Liederkreis

by Michael E. J. Witzel, Salvatore Scarlata, Toshifumi Goto

        Rig-Veda – Das heilige Wissen

        Sechster und siebter Liederkreis

by Toshifumi Gotō, Eijirō Dōyama, Toshifumi Gotō, Eijirō Dōyama

The secret life of romantic comedy

        by Celestino Deleyto

The secret life of romantic comedy offers a new approach to one of the most popular and resilient genres in the history of Hollywood. Steering away from the rigidity and ideological determinism of traditional accounts of the genre, this book advocates a more flexible theory, which allows the student to explore the presence of the genre in unexpected places, extending the concept to encompass films that are not usually considered romantic comedies. Combining theory with detailed analyses of a selection of films, including To Be or Not to Be (1942), Rear Window (1954), Kiss Me Stupid (1964), Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989) and Before Sunset (2004), the book aims to provide a practical framework for the exploration of a key area of contemporary experience - intimate matters - through one of its most powerful filmic representations: the genre of romantic comedy. Original and entertaining, The secret life of romantic comedy is perfect for students and academics of film and film genre.

Lotte Cohn – Baumeisterin des Landes Israel

        Eine Biographie

        by Ines Sonder

        Cinematic countrysides

        by Edited by Robert Fish

Recent years have witnessed an explosion of interest in the 'spatialities of cinema' across the social sciences and humanities, yet to date critical inquiry has tended to explore this issue as a question of the 'city' and the 'urban'. For the first time, leading scholars in geography, film and cultural studies have been drawn together to explore the multiple ways in ideas of cinema and countryside are co-produced: how 'film makes rural' and 'rural makes film'. From the expanse of the American great west to the mountainous landscapes of North Korea, Cinematic countrysides draws on a range of popular and alternative film genres to demonstrate how film texts come to prefigure expectations of rural social space, and how these representations come to shape, and be shaped by, the material and embodied circumstances of 'lived' rural experience. At the heart of this volume's varied apprehensions of the 'cinematic countryside' is a concern to argue that ideas of rurality in film are central to wider questions of 'modernity' and 'tradition', 'self' and 'other', 'nationhood' and 'globalisation', and crucially, ones that are central to an account of the 'cinematic city'.

        Karli, the Crabby Puffer Fish

by Joan Schaaf, Pia Eitenmüller, Milena Schultz, Aleksandra Emilova Stefcheva

Karli can get really annoyed if he doesn’t like something. He quickly takes offence and feels misunderstood. That makes him angry and sometimes causes him to explode, like a volcano. But it also makes him sad that other people don’t like him as a result and try to keep away from him. Karli’s grandpa helps him recognize and control his anger, so he doesn’t clash so much with his parents and friends. This book aims to make it easier for children with oppositional defiant disorder to understand their current situation. In a sensitive way, it demonstrates how quickly they can fall into a spiral of anger, but also how they can get back out of it. The book provides important information on this topic for children, their parents, siblings, and therapists as well as practical tasks and exercises. For:• children of elementary school age(between 6 and 12) with oppositionaldefiant disorder• parents• relatives• therapists
