Overview
Representing more than 112,000 credentialed nutrition and dietetics practitioners, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is the world's largest organization of food and nutrition professionals. The Academy is committed to improving the nation's health and advancing the profession of dietetics through research, education and advocacy.
The Academy was founded as the American Dietetic Association in 1917 by a visionary group of women who were dedicated to helping the government conserve food and improve the public's health and nutrition during World War I. The organization changed its name in 2012 to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The Academy's name complements the focus of the organization to improve the nutritional well-being of the public, while communicating the academic expertise of our members and supporting the history as a food-and science-based profession.
