Author Biography
Yuri Nikitinsky was born on November 26, 1970, in the city of Ashgabat. He has lived in Kyiv since 1984. Yuri began writing for children in the early 90's, his publications appeared in the magasines for children and teenagers, such as Barvinok, Odnoklasnyk, and Malyatko. Somewhere at the same time he tried to become a rock star and had a very local success, which he remembers with a smile. Yuri worked in the library and as an author of children's pages in Ukrainian newspapers, until in the mid-90s he became the head of the department of youth literature of the magasine Odnoklasnyk (Classmate). At the same time, he also collaborated with the music magazines such as Novyy rok-n-rol (New Rock’n’roll) ,Halas (Noise), and others. Yuri’s first children’s books appeared in the early 2000s. Back then he also started to work in glossy magazines such Afisha, EGO, MAX and Time Out Kyiv. But his period also passed, giving way to film and television industry — Nikitinsky wrote scripts for the TV series Koly my vdoma (When We Are At Home), Cherhovyy likar (Doctor on Duty), Vykhodʹte bez dzvinka (Come Out Without an Invitation). During this time, more than thirty of his books were published, some of which have been translated into Lithuanian, Chinese and Arabic. Yuri Nikitinsky is a laureate of the Korniychuk Prize, the Babel Prize and the Korolenko Prize. He has repeatedly been included in the long and short lists of Top Barabuki – Ukrainian reader’s favourites In 2021, his book Apocalypse: 40 rules of survival received the Barabuka Award for the "Comic of the Year". Author of the books Budynok Dvirnykiv (House of the Street Sweepers), Vovchyk, yakyy osidlav bombu (Little Wolf Who Rode a Bomb), Mitsna druzhba Dimona (True Friends of Dimon) and others.
