Tap&Talk Phonics 1
by Tokyo International School
Description
TAP & TALK teaches children the sounds made by individual letters or letter groups, helping them learn how to blend separate sounds into a single word.
Rather than expecting children to pick up these associations indirectly, TAP & TALK teaches the specific connections between letters and sounds. Given English’s complex spelling system, TAP & TALK helps children decode letters into their respective sounds, an essential skill for reading unfamiliar words independently.
Since most words are initially unfamiliar to young readers in print – even if they know the words when spoken – understanding letter-sound relationships helps bridge the gap between unfamiliar printed words and spoken language.
Effective phonics instruction is crucial, as letter-sound knowledge forms the foundation needed to develop reading and writing skills.
