Reviews
"Método de tango is indispensable for anyone who wants to understand this complex and hybrid music from the Río de la Plata more precisely. The reason is because for the first time that music, which is shaped by oral tradition and practice, is decoded and this makes it readable and learnable.”
— Prof. Fedor Pellmann. Currently working on the publication of his dissertation on tango as an existentialist phenomenon, written at Heidelberg University, Germany.
“The Método de Tango book series represents a unique point of entry into the rich and diverse world of tango music. Rigorous and clear, with a wide array of examples and exercises geared towards specific instruments, the books systematically introduce and elaborate key features of tango performance practice, from the semi-improvised melodic phrasing to the many rhythmic accompaniment patterns and modes of articulation that characterize this wonderful music. Whether you are an experienced tanguero or just want to expand your technical resources, the Método de Tango books will help you expand and deepen your connection with music.”
— Morgan James Luker. Associate Professor of Music, Reed College, Portland, OR, U.S. Author of the book “The Tango Machine: Musical Culture in the Age of Expediency”
About “The Guitar in Tango” book: “While guitar has an iconic place in most music that has emerged in the New World, there may be no spot more mysterious than the guitarist’s chair in tango music. In this amazingly comprehensive book, Sebastián Henríquez takes us deep into one of the most unusual and beautiful applications of this endlessly malleable instrument.”
— Pat Metheny
About “The Bass in Tango” book: “Ignacio Varchausky has poured his heart and soul into this beautiful book. I am a great admirer of the many great bassists in tango music, and I am a student of this music! This book will help us all to dive much deeper into this amazing music and enable us to understand it better and ultimately play it with the respect it deserves!”
— John Patitucci
