        Protestant devotional identities in early modern England

        by Elizabeth Clarke, Robert W. Daniel

        This international and interdisciplinary volume investigates Protestant devotional identities in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century England. Divided into two sections, the book examines the 'sites' where these identities were forged - the academy, printing house, household, theatre and prison - and the 'types' of texts that expressed them - spiritual autobiographies, religious poetry and writings tied to the ars moriendi - providing a broad analysis of social, material and literary forms of devotion during England's Long Reformation. Through archival and cutting-edge research, a detailed picture of 'lived religion' emerges, which re-evaluates the pietistic acts and attitudes of well-known and recently discovered figures. To those studying and teaching religion and identity in early modern England, and anyone interested in the history of religious self-expression, these chapters offer a rich and rewarding read.

        Shakespeare's book

        Essays in reading, writing and reception

        by Richard Meek, Jane Rickard, Richard Wilson

        This collection of essays is part of a new phase in Shakespeare studies. The traditional view of Shakespeare is that he was a man of the theatre who showed no interest in the printing of his plays, producing works that are only fully realised in performance. This view has recently been challenged by critics arguing that Shakespeare was a literary 'poet-playwright', concerned with his readers as well as his audiences. Shakespeare's Book offers a vital contribution to this critical debate, and examines its wider implications for how we conceive of Shakespeare and his works. Bringing together an impressive group of international Shakespeare scholars, the volume explores both Shakespeare's relationship with actual printers, patrons, and readers, and the representation of writing, reading, and print within his works themselves. ;

        Without a Word

        by Jennifer Schumann, Moon Notes

        In "Without a Word" von Jennifer Schumann begegnet die junge, ambitionierte Schauspielerin Madeleine während einer Auszeit im Café ihrer Freundin einem geheimnisvollen Stammgast. Dieser Mann, der weder spricht noch Madeleine direkt ansieht, übt eine unerklärliche Faszination auf sie aus. Trotz seiner abweisenden Haltung lässt Madeleine nicht locker und bemüht sich, ihm näher zu kommen. Nach und nach enthüllt sich ihr der Grund für sein Verhalten, und sie erkennt, dass Liebe nicht immer Worte benötigt, um wahr und tief zu sein. Die Geschichte erzählt von der langsamen, aber intensiven Annäherung zwischen Madeleine und dem jungen Mann, der sich später als Eden herausstellt. Trotz der sprachlosen Kommunikation entwickelt sich zwischen ihnen eine tiefe Verbundenheit, die zeigt, wie stark nonverbale Interaktionen sein können. Madeleine lernt dabei nicht nur Edens Geheimnis kennen, sondern auch, dass Liebe Hindernisse überwinden kann, die auf den ersten Blick unüberwindbar scheinen. Durch ihre Hartnäckigkeit und ihr offenes Herz entdeckt sie eine neue Art der Liebe – eine Liebe, die ohne Worte auskommt, dafür aber umso eindrücklicher spricht. "Without a Word" ist eine bewegende Geschichte über die Kraft der Liebe, die auch die tiefsten Barrieren durchbrechen kann. Berührende Liebesgeschichte, die zeigt, dass wahre Liebe auch ohne Worte tief und bedeutungsvoll sein kann. Faszinierende Charakterentwicklung: Erlebe Madeleines Reise von einer ehrgeizigen Schauspielerin zu einer einfühlsamen Partnerin, die die Kraft der nonverbalen Kommunikation entdeckt. Unerwartete Wendungen und emotionale Tiefe, die den Leser von der ersten bis zur letzten Seite fesseln. Einzigartiges Setting in einem Café, das als Bühne für die zarte Annäherung zwischen Madeleine und dem geheimnisvollen Eden dient. Behandelt wichtige und sensible Themen wie Krankheit, Tod und Trauer auf eine respektvolle und berührende Weise. Perfekte Mischung aus Romantik und Realismus, die zum Nachdenken anregt und gleichzeitig das Herz erwärmt. Wechselnde Perspektiven zwischen Madeleine und Eden ermöglichen einen tiefen Einblick in ihre Gedanken und Gefühle, wodurch die Geschichte eine außergewöhnliche Intimität erhält. Emotional packendes Leseerlebnis, das zum Weinen und zum Nachdenken über die Bedeutung von Liebe und Verlust anregt. Positive Leserrezensionen heben hervor, wie einfühlsam und mitreißend die Geschichte erzählt wird, und empfehlen das Buch für Fans emotionaler Liebesromane. Das Buch bietet neben der romantischen Geschichte auch wertvolle Lebenslektionen über das Überwinden von Hindernissen und die Bedeutung des im Jetzt zu leben.

        1 Angel Square

        The Co-operative Group's new head office

        by Len Grant

        This book charts the building of 1 Angel Square, the remarkable new head office for The Co-operative Group in Manchester's new NOMA district. Combining text and photographs to illustrate the building from commissioning to completion, Len Grant has interviewed the whole project team - clients, architects, engineers, project managers and builders - and has had unreserved access to document the creation of this already award-winning structure. The design of 1 Angel Square by the architects 3DReid, is currently the UK's highest BREEAM (Building Research Establishment's Environmental Assessment Method) rated office building to date, and it is set to be one of the most sustainable buildings in Europe. 1 Angel Square, the book, is an intimate record of this fascinating building. Some of the impressive facts include: 3,157 internal and external window panels make up the façade; there are 10,500 data and power outlets; it sits on 539 foundation piles, with an average depth of 18 metres below ground; and there are approximately 22km of power cables. This book will be required reading for students of architecture and construction, sustainability studies and urban planning, and for those with an interest in the history of one of the world's great businesses. ;
