2022Medication Management in the Hospital
A workbook for ward pharmacists
by Dr. Insa Gross, MSc Andreas Fischer and Dr. Holger Knoth
The ward pharmacist in the hospital is like the airbag in a car. As part of a fail-safe system, they monitor and optimise the patient’s drug therapy. Ward pharmacists work hand in hand with medical and nursing staff. That situation is also reflected in this workbook. All the cases presented were patients who had been cared for, evaluated and documented by a physician-pharmacist duo or similar team with combined medical and pharmaceutical expertise. The editorial team considered it important to illustrate all critical indications typically encountered in a hospital. In assessing and selecting the examples, they were able to draw upon the many years’ experience of their pioneering work as hospital and ward pharmacists. Practical tips, checklists, comments and advice for working in the ward environment round off the individual chapters. By learning from actual cases, this book offers the unique chance to develop an instinct for the pitfalls of drug safety. That applies to those who have successfully completed further training in the field of “Medication Management in the Hospital” and for all who wish to ensure the optimum treatment for their patients through competent work in clinical pharmacy.

PsychologyWhen Great AchiWhen Great Achievements Lead to Great Self-doubtevements Lead to Great Self-doubt
The Impostor Self-image and its Effects
by Sonja Rohrmann
They are successful high performers and to the outsider they appear to be capable, qualified, and skilled. Nevertheless, despite obvious evidence of their actual capacities, some of them fear that they will not be able to repeat their successes. They tend to attribute career success not to personal expertise but to excessive effort or uncontrollable factors such as luck. People with the impostor self-image or “imposter syndrome” are convinced that they are not as intelligent and capable as they ap-pear to others and that they have arrived in their positions undeservedly. They thus experience themselves as “frauds” or “impostors” and fear that sooner or later they will be exposed as such.This book examines the characteristics of the impostor self-image, how it can be identified, how widespread it is, how it develops, its links with other personality traits, and its effects. Finally, the question of countering the impostor self-image is explored, along with how people can arrive at a realistic assessment of their own skills, counter self-doubt, and achieve greater psychological well-being. Humanities & Social SciencesNovember 2004The management of the British economy, 1945–2001
by Nicholas Woodward, Martin Hargreaves
Since 1945 British governments have played an active role in managing the economy in the interests of securing high employment, economic growth and low inflation with their approach evolving in response to changing economic circumstances, intellectual shifts and past policy failures. This book provides an overview of economic management, particularly financial management, and addresses how it has changed and why it has not always been successful. It examines the actual policies that were introduced, the problems that various governments faced in implementing them and how the approach to policy-making changed. It also examines the main phases of economic policy-making and the conduct of policy-making, as there is a widespread consensus that until recently short-run economic management could have been more successful than it was. Clearly and authoritatively written, it will be of particular benefit to students of economics, politics and contemporary history, although it will appeal to anyone with an interest in economic affairs. ;

MedicineManual Trigger Point Therapy and Dry Needling for Chronic Pain
Myofascial medicine as an approach to an unresolved challenge
by Beat Dejung
Medicine for the relief of pain has made little progress in the last 50 years. 16% of our population claim to suffer from chronic pain, for which no lasting help can be found, despite years of treatment by different doctors. Trigger point therapy experts have integrated myofascial techniques into their everyday therapy in recent decades and through this they have achieved good results even with complex and chronic problems. In this book, instructors from the Interest Group for Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy (IMTT) in Switzerland present 33 complex cases of patients with chronic pain, whose pain they were able to relieve permanently with manual trigger point therapy and dry needling. Using these case studies, doublepage spreads with an educational, uniform layout clearly present the diagnosis, pathophysiology and chronifcation of myofascial pain syndromes and, in conclusion, describe encouraging and surprising successes despite previous therapy resistance.

Humanities & Social SciencesJuly 2013Diversity management in Spain
New dimensions, new challenges
by Ricard Zapata-Barrero
In the current European dilemma as to whether to increase diversity policies or move towards an assimilationist policy, it is difficult to know what the Spanish approach is. This book argues that Spain represents a context of "multiple diversity", where two frameworks interact: an old, unresolved one, arising from democratic transition, and a new one due to immigration. This explains the Spanish practical approach, where the recent past plays the role of an iron cage, limiting institutional innovation and change. The author proposes a heuristic model, to better understand the "Spanish laboratory of diversities". In order to go through these steps, the author analyses three case studies, coming from the political/social agenda: education, workplace, and political rights. At the end, the reader will have an empirically informed and theoretically founded overview on how Spain is managing diversity. This book is timely for a wide range of academic and professional readers. ;

Business, Economics & LawDecember 2021Managing Staff Turnover
by Häfner, Alexander; Truschel, Christina
The long-term retention of top performers is of great economic relevance for companies. Unwanted staff turnover generates high costs in companies and is often accompanied by losses in terms of quality, customer satisfaction and productivity. In addition, it is becoming increasingly difficult to recruit good specialists and managers on the labor market. Based on the current state of research, this book describes guidelines for the systematic analysis of reasons for staff turnover and provides practical recommendations for how to retain top performers (e.g., conducting retention interviews, designing attractive career paths). It also explains how classic HR tools, such as employee surveys or team meetings, can help prevent unwanted turnover. The topics presented range from the initial training, through discussions to clarify expectations, to exit interviews and typical problems encountered when implementing turnover management. Special emphasis is placed on the question of what both immediate superiors (e.g. team leaders) and those responsible for personnel and organizational development as well as the management can do to prevent unwanted staff turnover. Case studies from various industries (e.g. production, retail, care) round off this book. For:• professionals in leadership positions• HR managers• personnel and organizational developers• business consultants, coaches, and supervisors• personnel psychologists• students and teachers of industrial, business andorganizational psychology as well as businessadministration
