Psychotherapie eines Prärie-Indianers

In dieser Arbeit wird beschrieben, wie ein Prärieindianer mit einer komplizierten Symptom-Neurose im Verlauf einer Psychotherapie, die als Forschungsprojekt durchgeführt wurde, seine Wiederherstellung erlangte. Devereux schildert zunächst die Situation, in der sich das Leiden des Patienten entwickelte. Daran schließen eine detaillierte Auseinandersetzung an mit der prärieindianischen Kultur und eine theoretische Erörterung der Probleme kulturübergreifender Psychiatrie, der Bewertung von Symptomen unter einem kulturübergreifenden Aspekt, der Bedeutung des Verwandtschaftsmodells als Hintergrund für die Therapie, der Übertragungsprobleme, der Verwendung von Träumen und der gewählten therapeutischen Ziele. Dann kommen die Patientengespräche selbst, dreißig an der Zahl, wiedergegeben aus den Aufzeichnungen des Anthropologen, in denen er die Sitzungen fast Wort für Wort festgehalten hat. Als Forschungsprojekt war diese Psychotherapie Teil einer Untersuchung über die Rolle kultureller Faktoren bei der Ätiologie, Symptomatik und Therapie von Persönlichkeitsstörungen. Ihr Ziel bestand in der Entwicklung spezieller Techniken zur Behandlung solcher Störungen bei Personen, deren kultureller Hintergrund und ethnische Persönlichkeitsstruktur von den Patienten des »typischen« Therapeuten der amerikanischen Mittelklasse abweichen.

Against the backdrop of Britain's historically anti-Thatcherite films of the 1980s and 1990s, Reframing Margaret Thatcher outlines a decisive shift in the collective imagination of Thatcher. Drawing on genre, trauma, and queer studies, it demonstrates how post-Thatcherite films reflect upon their own entanglement in the polarization of the Thatcher years but also rewrite the clichéd Iron Lady. Chapters on The Iron Lady, This is England, Doomsday, 9 Dead Gay Guys, and the Sherlock TV series investigate various Thatcher imaginations, ranging from Thatcher as a lesbian mob boss, as prime minister in apocalyptic England, to Thatcher as an empty bust. This innovative study shows how the apparent depoliticization of British film makes visible new relations between genre, cinematic form, and imaginations of the past and offers fresh perspectives that both critique and reinterpret Thatcher's enduring impact.
