View Rights PortalTaking five or more medications – this is part of the daily routine of many, especially elderly people. But polymedication increases the risk of drug-related problems. This is where the pharmaceutical service „Extended medication counselling for polymedication“ comes in. This comprehensive guide shows how to establish and implement such knowledge in the pharmacy: ■ Part A explains the legal and contractual basis of the service. In addition, the publication highlights the risks of polymedication, drug-related problems and goals, and the benefits of the service for the stakeholders involved in the pharmacy, the doctor‘s practice, and for the patients themselves. ■ Part B is dedicated to the organisation in the pharmacy: team preparation, quality management, required documents, consulting and workplaces, and staff qualification. Aspects such as time management, patient recruitment and public liability are also considered. ■ Part C describes the individual process steps flanked by aids such as work tables, checklists, sample texts (for download at www.Online-PlusBase.de) and a comparison table for supporting AMTS software tools, including screenshots. ■ Part D offers case studies, including the initiation of extended medication counselling, the pharmaceutical AMTS review (software-supported), solution paths and communication (including formulation examples) with the various stakeholders involved. A medication analysis promotes drug therapy safety, strengthens customer loyalty and creates new opportunities for interdisciplinary cooperation with the medical profession – good reasons for starting immediately!
In this book, the complexity and the significance of the foods we eat are analysed from a variety of perspectives, by sociologists, economists, geographers and anthropologists. Chapters address a number of intriguing questions: how do people make judgments about taste? How do such judgments come to be shared by groups of people?; what social and organisational processes result in foods being certified as of decent or proper quality? How has dissatisfaction with the food system been expressed? What alternatives are thought to be possible? The multi-disciplinary analysis of this book explores many different answers to such questions. The first part of the book focuses on theoretical and conceptual issues, the second part considers processes of formal and informal regulation, while the third part examines social and political responses to industrialised food production and mass consumption. Qualities of food will be of interest to researchers and students in all the social science disciplines that are concerned with food, whether marketing, sociology, cultural studies, anthropology, human nutrition or economics.
People with dementia experience their condition as a big change in which, for example, new events are not linked to existing experiences and wishes, thoughts, and actions can no longer be connected to each other. This kind of experience of the self, due to the intergative function of the brainbeing temporarily or permanently lost, is called dissociative self-experience. Based on this understanding of dementia, the author develops an approach to effectively understand and support people with dementia in everyday activities. Typical everyday situations and behaviours are presented and reflected on in a practical context.
The handling of drug interactions in the pharmacy has an important significance. A well-functioning interaction management system increases the safety of drug therapy for patients, promotes interdisciplinary exchange between physician and pharmacist, and boosts the skills of the local pharmacy. The author, an experienced practitioner, has developed standard templates for successfully communicating the most commonly occurring, clinically relevant interactions: - Decision aids in the form of flowcharts: When and how should the communication with the physician take place? - Aids to communication as sample forms that can be tailored to the individual pharmacy: What information does the physician need, what solutions does the pharmacy suggest? The forms cover both general interactions and specific interaction pairs and mechanisms: The appropriate solution for every interaction!
What we associate with sleep is shaped by the culture we live in. Whereas the God of the Bible never sleeps, the sinful human falls asleep every night and is thus marked as an inferior being. In the Age of Enlightenment, (too much) sleep was considered a waste of strength, which could otherwise be used to change the world. These days, sleep seems to be subject to the same tenets of usefulness as everything else and is seen to assist with the optimization of one’s self. However, culture and technology also influence how we sleep: for example, the constant availability of light, the modern conditions of work and all sorts of distractions have meant that we no longer follow our natural rhythm – a first sleep before midnight and a second sleep after a longer period of wakefulness, during which we may be active. In “Good Evening, Good Night”, Karoline Walter uses numerous examples from history, literature and research to illustrate how sleep and sleeping have changed across cultures and eras – an entertaining read, certainly nothing to put you to sleep.

Richard Haass and Mitchell Reiss, as autonomous diplomats in the George W. Bush State Department, were able to alter US intervention in Northern Ireland and play critical roles in the post-1998 peace process. Their contributions have not been fully appreciated or understood. The restoration of Northern Ireland's power-sharing government in 2007 was made possible by State Department-led intervention in the peace process. There are few references to Northern Ireland in work examining the foreign policy legacy of the George W. Bush presidency. Moreover, the ability to control US foreign policy towards the region brought one of George W. Bush's Northern Ireland special envoys into direct diplomatic conflict with the most senior actors inside the British government. This book will uncover the extent of this fall-out and provide original accounts on how diplomatic relations between these old allies became so fraught.
Sonst: Game Over.

The double game of music imagines music education as a series of games - each with its own rules, play currency and players - to challenge readers to rethink the significance of music and musical upbringing in shaping social structures. Drawing on their own empirical research and a wide range of international contributions, the authors unravel the intertwining of social positioning and power hierarchies with players beliefs in the pure values and virtues of their games, whether these relate to parenting, children's play, schooling, academic pursuits, musical leisure activities or the television and music industries. In a world where music is often celebrated as an important tool for inclusion and democratisation, this groundbreaking book offers a timely critique, revealing complexities and contradictions that tend to be overlooked by teachers, researchers, politicians and others interested in the powers of music education.
In postwar Britain, journalists and politicians prophesised that the class system would not survive a consumer culture where everyone had TVs and washing machines, and where more and more people owned their own homes. They were to be proved entirely wrong. In good taste charts how class culture, rather than being destroyed by mass consumption, was remade from flat-pack furniture, Mediterranean cuisine and lifestyle magazines. Novelists, cartoonists and playwrights satirised the tastes of the emerging middle classes, and sociologists claimed that an entire population was suffering from status anxiety, but underneath it all, a world was being constructed out of duvets, quiches and mayonnaise, easy chairs from Habitat, white emulsion paint and ubiquitous well-scrubbed, second-hand pine kitchen tables. This was less a world of symbolic goods and more an intimate environment alive with new feelings and attitudes.

This book is available as an open access ebook under a CC-BY-NC-ND licence. Through its study of diabetes care in twentieth-century Britain, Managing diabetes, managing medicine offers the first historical monograph to explore how the decision-making and labour of medical professionals became subject to bureaucratic regulation and managerial oversight. Where much existing literature has cast health care management as either a political imposition or an assertion of medical control, this work positions managerial medicine as a co-constructed venture. Although driven by different motives, doctors, nurses, professional bodies, government agencies and international organisations were all integral to the creation of managerial systems, working within a context of considerable professional, political, technological, economic and cultural change.
