R. Jay Wallace geht in seinen Frankfurter Vorlesungen der Frage nach, inwiefern die Moral als eigenständiger Bereich einer »bilateralen Normativität« verstanden werden kann. Eine solche »bilaterale Normativität«, wie sie etwa in Abmachungen, Verträgen oder Versprechen, aber auch in familiären Beziehungen zum Tragen kommt, ist ihm zufolge insofern spezifisch, als sie zwei Personen so miteinander verbindet, dass ihre jeweiligen normativen Situationen nur mit Bezug auf die Lage der anderen Person verstanden werden können. Dass diese Situationen genuin moralisch sind, zeigt Wallace in seinem Text, der spannende Perspektiven auf den so schwierigen Begriff der Normativität eröffnet.
