The authors explore the rise of this consciousness in architecture, examining the theoretical context to the debates, international exchanges made in architectural congresses in the 1970s, the use of housing as the vehicle for everyday heritage, and forms of symbolic public architecture that reflect monumental time.

Die Natur kann Organismen nicht so »bauen«, dass sie biologisch auf alle Eventualitäten vorbereitet sind. Sie kann aber psychologische Akteure schaffen: Organismen, welche als Feedbacksteuerungssysteme funktionieren, die Ziele verfolgen, fundierte Verhaltensentscheidungen treffen und deren Ausführung überwachen. In seinem neuen Buch stellt Michael Tomasello eine Typologie der wichtigsten Formen psychologischen Handelns vor, die auf dem Weg der Evolution zum Menschen entstanden sind. Er skizziert vier Haupttypen dieses Handelns in der evolutionären Reihenfolge ihres Auftretens: das zielgerichtete der Wirbeltiere, das intentionale der Säugetiere, das rationale der Menschenaffen und schließlich das sozial-normative der Menschen. Jede neue Form ging mit einer höheren Komplexität bei der Planung, Entscheidungsfindung und Kontrolle einher. Und jede führte zu neuartigen Erfahrungen mit der Umwelt sowie – in einigen Fällen – mit sich selbst. Schlussendlich kam es dazu, dass der Mensch eine sowohl objektive als auch normative Welt erlebt, die sein gesamtes Denken und Handeln bestimmt. Die Evolution des Handelns ist ein ebenso kreatives wie kühnes Werk, das einen neuen theoretischen Rahmen präsentiert, der den evolutionspsychologischen State of the Art sowohl erweitert als auch vertieft.

Do dogs belong with humans? Scientific accounts of dogs' 'species story,' in which contemporary dog-human relations are naturalised with reference to dogs' evolutionary becoming, suggest that they do. Dog politics dissects this story. This book offers a rich empirical analysis and critique of the development and consolidation of dogs' species story in science, asking what evidence exists to support it, and what practical consequences, for dogs, follow from it. It explores how this story is woven into broader scientific shifts in understandings of species, animals, and animal behaviours, and how such shifts were informed by and informed transformative political events, including slavery and colonialism, the Second World War and its aftermath, and the emergence of anti-racist movements in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The book pays particular attention to how species-thinking bears on 'race,' racism, and individuals.

Transforming conflict through social and economic development examines lessons learned from the Northern Ireland and Border Counties conflict transformation process through social and economic development and their consequent impacts and implications for practice and policymaking, with a range of functional recommendations produced for other regions emerging from and seeking to transform violent conflict. It provides, for the first time, a comprehensive assessment of the region's transformation activity, largely amongst grassroots actors, enabled by a number of specific funding programmes, namely the International Fund for Ireland, Peace I, II and III and INTERREG I, II and IIIA. These programmes have been responsible for a huge increase in grassroots practice which to date has attracted virtually no academic analysis; this book seeks to fill this gap. In focusing on the politics of the socioeconomic activities that underpinned the elite negotiations of the peace process, key theoretical transformation concepts are firstly explored, followed by an examination of the social and economic context of Northern Ireland and the border counties. The three programmes and their impacts are then assessed before considering what policy lessons can be learned and what recommendations can be made for practice. This is underpinned by a range of semi-structured interviews and the author's own experience as a project promoter through these programmes in the border counties for more than a decade. The book will be essential reading for students, practitioners and policymakers in the fields of peace and conflict studies, conflict transformation, peacebuilding, post-agreement reconstruction and the political economy of conflict and those interested in contemporary developments in the Northern Ireland peace process. ;
