Plastik sparen Die Geschichte einer Idee Die Idee für Plastik sparen ist im Juni 2018 entstanden. Wie schon so oft endete ein Wocheneinkauf im totalen Plastik-Inferno. Kennt ihr das? Einmal einkaufen beim Supermarkt um die Ecke und schon ist eine Mülltüte voll mit Plastik. Aber wie kann ich das ändern, fragte ich mich. Also informierte ich mich, war bei einem Vortrag zum Thema "plastikfrei leben" um dann mit dem Gefühl zurück zu bleiben, das nicht leisten zu können. Aber einfach weiter Plastik konsumieren war für mich auch keine Alternative. Es musste doch Möglichkeiten geben Plastik zu reduzieren, die Jedermann*frau ganz einfach in den Alltag einbauen kann. Und so war "Plastik sparen" geboren. Die Idee dahinter, durch viele kleine Plastik-spar-Aktivitäten den Plastikmüll in meinem Haushalt zu reduzieren. Und, ich kann sagen es funktioniert. Bei jedem Einkauf landet wesentlich weniger Plastikverpackung im Einkaufswagen als früher. Alles Aktivitäten, die keine (oder nur wenig) Zeit gekostet haben, die oftmals Geld gespart haben und die ich problemlos in den Alltag integrieren konnte. "Plastik sparen" ist unser Beitrag für eine Umwelt mit weniger Plastik. Meine Ideen, Gedanken und Erlebnisse möchte ich teilen und viele Menschen dafür begeistern, immer weniger Plastik in ihr Leben zu lassen.

Explores some of the key venues of black British literary and cultural production across the postwar period: bedsits and basements; streets and cafes; train stations and tourist landscapes; the suburbs and the city; the north and south. Pursues a 'devolving' landscape in order to consider what an analysis of 'dwelling' might contribute to the travelling theories of diaspora discourse and asks what happens when we 'situate' literatures of movement and migration. Offers fresh readings of work by some of the key literary figures of the postwar years, for example, Salman Rushdie, Hanif Kureishi, Meera Syal, Linton Kwesi Johnson. Contextualises writings alongside photography, painting, and film to consider their relationship to broader shifts in the politics of black representation over the past fifty years. Offers sustained anaysis of many of the texts reproduced in Procter's anthology Writing black Britain 1948-98 ( MUP, 2000) making an ideal companion to the earlier book. ;

New materialisms as a decolonial project

Tainted Tools makes a provocative intervention into the fraught intersection between new materialist and decolonial approaches. Despite a common project of challenging European philosophical and social categories and hierarchies, the discourses are considered incompatible. Most prominently, new materialisms have been accused of harbouring a White vision of the human while disregarding the racist resonances of the 'nonhuman'. The book traces this conflict to an earlier meeting point of new materialist and decolonial projects, which came about through the experimental combination of Marx and Nietzsche. Used to fight fascism, Stalinism and colonialism, this politically contentious fusion gradually became depoliticised, leading to unaddressed tensions today. While the book does not argue for a revival of these early 'new materialisms', it brings their strategies into dialogue with today's new materialisms and decolonial approaches to develop greater theoretical solidarity in times of crisis.

Themes in British social and cultural history, 1700s–1980s

This book of essays on British social and cultural history since the eighteenth century draws attention to relatively neglected topics including personal and collective identities, the meanings of place, especially locality, and the significance of cultures of association. Themes range from rural England in the eighteenth century to the urbanizing society of the nineteenth century; from the Home Front in the First World War to voluntary action in the welfare state; from post 1945 civic culture to the advice columns of teenage magazines and the national press. Various aspects of civil society connect these themes notably: the different identities of place, locality and association that emerged with the growth of an urban environment during the nineteenth century and the shifting landscape of twentieth-century public discourse on social welfare and personal morality. It is of interest that several of the essays take Manchester or Lancashire as their focus.
