        Surviving repression

The Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood after the 2013 coup

        by Lucia Ardovini

Surviving repression tells the story of the Muslim Brotherhood following the 2013 coup d'état in Egypt. The Brotherhood gained legal recognition and quickly rose to power after the 2011 Arab uprisings, but its subsequent removal from office marked the beginning of the harshest repression of its troubled history. Forced into exile, the Brotherhood and its members are now faced with a monumental task as they rebuild this fragmented organisation. Drawing on extensive fieldwork and interviews with current and former members of the Brotherhood, the book explores this new era in the movement's history, emphasising first-hand experiences, perspectives and emotions to better understand how individual responses to repression are affecting the movement as a whole. Surviving repression offers a unique insight into the main strategic, ideological and organizational debates dividing the Brotherhood.

        Rechtsrevolutionen

Der Anteil des Rechts an der Entstehung der Weltgesellschaft

        by Hauke Brunkhorst

by Guillermo Cabrera Infante, Wilfried Böhringer

        Bordering social reproduction

Migrant mothers and children making lives in the shadows

        by Rachel Rosen, Eve Dickson

Bordering social reproduction explores what happens when migrants subject to policies that seek to deny them the means of life nonetheless endeavour to make and sustain meaningful lives. Developing innovative theorisations of welfare bordering, the volume provides rich ethnographic insights into the everyday lives of destitute mothers and children who are denied mainstream welfare support in the United Kingdom due to their immigration status. This book shows how enforced destitution and debt work alongside detention and deportation as part of a tripartite of exclusionary technologies of the racial state. It advances the novel concept of weathering to comprehend mother's and children's life-making practices under duress - arguing that these are neither acts of heroic resilience nor solely symptomatic of lives rendered disposable, but indications of the fragilities of repressive migration regimes and, on occasion, refusals to accept their terms of existence.

        Das letzte Territorium

        Essays

by Juri Andruchowytsch, Alois Woldan, Sofia Onufriv, Juri Andruchowytsch

        Air power and colonial control

        by David Omissi

Air policing was used in many colonial possessions, but its most effective incidence occurred in the crescent of territory from north-eastern Africa, through South-West Arabia, to North West Frontier of India. This book talks about air policing and its role in offering a cheaper means of 'pacification' in the inter-war years. It illuminates the potentialities and limitations of the new aerial technology, and makes important contributions to the history of colonial resistance and its suppression. Air policing was employed in the campaign against Mohammed bin Abdulla Hassan and his Dervish following in Somaliland in early 1920. The book discusses the relationships between air control and the survival of Royal Air Force in Iraq and between air power and indirect imperialism in the Hashemite kingdoms. It discusses Hugh Trenchard's plans to substitute air for naval or coastal forces, and assesses the extent to which barriers of climate and geography continued to limit the exercise of air power. Indigenous responses include being terrified at the mere sight of aircraft to the successful adaptation to air power, which was hardly foreseen by either the opponents or the supporters of air policing. The book examines the ethical debates which were a continuous undercurrent to the stream of argument about repressive air power methods from a political and operational perspective. It compares air policing as practised by other European powers by highlighting the Rif war in Morocco, the Druze revolt in Syria, and Italy's war of reconquest in Libya.

        Micronutrient Depleters: Cholesterol-lowering Drugs

Things to know about medicines and micronutrients

by Uwe Gröber and Prof. Dr. Klaus Kisters

Elevated blood lipid levels are among the major risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. The class of substances most commonly used for lowering blood lipids is the type of cholesterol-lowering drug known as statins. Taking cholesterol-lowering drugs can lead to disruption of the coenzyme Q10 balance and muscle metabolism. In addition, statin therapy increases the need for selenium, vitamin D, omega-3 fatty acids, B vitamins and L-carnitine. This guide provides patients with important medical information about the interactions of their medicines with these micronutrients. This way, patients can optimise their treatment, reduce the side effects of their medication, and improve their quality of life!
