        The Practice of Pharmacy

Textbook for pharmacy interns Handbook for the pharmacy

by Dr. Michael Sax, founded by Dr. Herbert Gebler and Dr. Gerd Kindl

After pharmacy studies have ended, the fascinating world of the pharmacy awaits – simultaneously varied and challenging. This is no problem with this well-established standard work to hand! The 7th edition, with a new editor and new structure, goes through the various stages of pharmacy operation. Beginning with the social mandate to supply medicines and then considering the organisational and economic orientation of a pharmacy, one delves ever deeper into its inner workings. In every area, the appropriate specific information can be found about pharmaceutical law and practice – whether this concerns the back office, over-the-counter medicines, dispensary and dispensing, or the supply of care homes, or preparation of cytotoxic drugs. In addition to the important topic “Dispensing of drugs and medical devices on prescription”, particular attention is paid to the principal activity in the pharmacy – giving advice on self-medication. The contents are based on the regulations for registration of pharmacists and the guidelines of the Federal Chamber of Pharmacists for the practical training of pharmacy interns in the pharmacy. The Practice of Pharmacy safely navigates the user through the practical training year and is the ideal preparation for the 3rd State Examination! Returnees, pharmacies that provide training and pharmacists of many years’ experience, will also benefit from this textbook and reference work.

by Esther Luhmann (ed.), By Björn Schittenhelm, Gabriele Renner and Florian Giermann

We encounter the effects of climate change on a daily basis. It also presents a danger to our health. The authors explore these questions in depth. They examine the side effects that medicinal products can have on the environment and where alternatives are to be found. To help ensure that environmental protection is part-and-parcel of everyday pharmacy practice, the book offers practical tips and checklists for the whole team. Sale and purchase of pharmacies

by Dipl.-Kfm. Axel Witte and Dipl.-Bw. Doris zur Mühlen

To avoid unpleasant surprises, it is worth taking a closer look when buying or selling a pharmacy. Whether buyer or seller: both parties ask themselves the question of the market value of an object. This is determined by a multitude of factors. This book shows how both parties arrive at a realistic assessment. The revised and updated edition of the classic work guides you through the process of assessing a pharmacy’s value. Various examples help to assess the facts and support the understanding of relevant factors during the sale or purchasing process, which is usually carried out with the help of an advisor experienced in the field.

        Being Able to Stop

Against the delusion of permanent growth

        by Edited by Jean-Pierre Wils

We moderns were the inhabitants of an age of impetuous forward movement and voracious discontent. Our main virtue was to increase our reach. Increasing our having and accelerating our being were the signposts towards the future. We just could not get enough. Using the blinkers of ignorance and self-anaesthesia, however, we managed to forget the tremendous costs incurred by this intoxication. Now disillusionment has set in. We look to the future with anxiety. We know that we have long since crossed a line and that a revision of our lifestyle is imminent. We have a bad feeling, and doubts about progress often give way to anger and rebellion. Which stocks of the modern narrative should we defend; which would we do better to let go? How will we even "be able to stop"? The path to a different society needs an attractive goal, because without the prospect of a different, better life, we will not move forward. We should start practising immediately. There is no time to lose.

AMTS (Drug Therapy Safety) and Medication Analysis

        Extended medication counselling for polymedication

        by Stefanie Brune

Taking five or more medications – this is part of the daily routine of many, especially elderly people. But polymedication increases the risk of drug-related problems. This is where the pharmaceutical service „Extended medication counselling for polymedication“ comes in. This comprehensive guide shows how to establish and implement such knowledge in the pharmacy: ■ Part A explains the legal and contractual basis of the service. In addition, the publication highlights the risks of polymedication, drug-related problems and goals, and the benefits of the service for the stakeholders involved in the pharmacy, the doctor‘s practice, and for the patients themselves. ■ Part B is dedicated to the organisation in the pharmacy: team preparation, quality management, required documents, consulting and workplaces, and staff qualification. Aspects such as time management, patient recruitment and public liability are also considered. ■ Part C describes the individual process steps flanked by aids such as work tables, checklists, sample texts (for download at www.Online-PlusBase.de) and a comparison table for supporting AMTS software tools, including screenshots. ■ Part D offers case studies, including the initiation of extended medication counselling, the pharmaceutical AMTS review (software-supported), solution paths and communication (including formulation examples) with the various stakeholders involved. A medication analysis promotes drug therapy safety, strengthens customer loyalty and creates new opportunities for interdisciplinary cooperation with the medical profession – good reasons for starting immediately!

        Haemophilia

        Guidelines for pharmacists

by Dr. Carmen Escuriola Ettingshausen and Nico Kraft

With the introduction of emicizumab (Hemlibra®) onto the market in February 2018, the advising of patients with blood clotting disorders entered the realm of the pharmacy. After the German law for greater safety in the supply of medicines (GSAV) came into force in August 2020, all drugs for the specific treatment of blood clotting disorders associated with haemophilia – i.e., also products containing clotting factors – are distributed through pharmacies. This change in the law represents an opportunity and at the same time a challenge for pharmacies. A physician and a pharmacist answer questions about the fundamentals of the disease and how to handle its treatment: ■ What causes haemophilia and how is it manifested in patients? ■ Which drugs are used and how is treatment given? ■ What needs to be observed when supplying patients via the pharmacy? Patient, Haemophilia Centre, Pharmacy – seize the opportunity as a pharmacy and establish your position as a competent and reliable partner in this relationship.

        Pharmacology Workbook

        Practice, revise, consolidate

by Annette Thomas and Nadine Sprecher

Pharmacology imparts knowledge about the effects and use of drugs in humans. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and the development of diseases are also part of the subject matter. However, the abundance of facts can quickly make the head spin. Approaching the subject like a game helps to make it easier to grasp and anchor what has been learnt permanently in the memory, so it can then be confidently used in the day-to-day pharmacy routine. This is where the Pharmacology Workbook comes into play! A whole arsenal of entertaining tasks awaits the reader: crosswords, word and picture puzzles, word search games, “fill in the blanks” quizzes, puzzle games and case examples from pharmacy practice. The section “Linked together, reliably memorised” helps to connect knowledge. “Now it gets tricky” encourages the reader to engage with the material more intensively, while under “Making revision fun” there are tips and suggestions for learning in a group. This work is based on the sequence of chapters in the textbook Pharmacology. But of course, whether pharmaceutical technician, returnee or even pharmacy intern, all can have fun practising, revising and deepening their pharmacological knowledge with the Pharmacology Workbook.
